Maserati A6GCS victorious at Villa d’Este 2016 [English version]

Cernobbio, Concorso d’eleganza Villa d’Este 2016: Maserati A6GCS won the Trofeo BMW Group. The Maserati A6GCS is the evolution of a model born around the end of 1947. A stands for Alfieri, 6 as the number of cylinders in this engine, G stands for “ghisa” the cast iron (material used to stand), C (corsa) and S (Sport). A body shop opened with motorcycle fenders fitted to a tubular frame that houses a 2,000 cc engine. a 6-cylinder 120 HP, positioned slightly off-axis to the centre line of the car in such a way as to allow a lowering of the driver’s seat.
Excellent results appear immediately in its debut on the track: first and second Villoresi and Ascari Modena Grand Prix of September 28, 1947. With this car also wins the Italian Championship a year later Bracco.
From the A6GCS will born then the car A6GCM (M stands for “monoposto” single seat), that will not bring great results. Five years later than, with the arrival from Alfa Romeo by Gioachino Colombo (creator of the glorious Alfettas racing), the A6GCS resumes and thanks to some changes and an increase of power up to 190 HP, the car A6GCS is now able to compete with the Ferrari 500 F2. From this new A6GCS will then life the famous 250F, allowing it later to Fangio to become Formula one world champion.
In parallel with the revision of the car, Colombo also changes the sport version, creating the A6GCS/53, characterized by a new aerodynamic “barchetta” bodywork. With an output of 170 HP and numerous improvements over the previous version, in ‘ 53 will take part in the sports car World Championship, which takes place in parallel to the drivers ‘ Championship (held out of Formula one).
Formidable will be the career of new A6GCS/53, especially thanks to great masters as Luigi Musso, Alfonso De Portago, Alberto Ascari and Maria Teresa De Filppis that will make the most of this fantastic car. The A6GCS/53 was brought to success thanks to Luigi Musso and Maria Teresa de Filippis. Musso with the A6GCS/53 wins the 2-litre sports car Championship in 1953 and in 1954 and Targa Florio and the tour of Sicily in 1954, while the Countess De Filippis in 1955 took second place in the Italian 2000 Sport Championship .

The Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes, assigned always by public Referendum in the gardens of Villa Erba, was won by Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring. For 90 years anniversary of the company with the technical support of Alfa Romeo, the flying saucer Spyder is the first “open“ of the recent history of Touring and was built on the chassis of the 8c Competizione.

Saturday, May 21 was awarded the Gold Cup the Lancia Astura Series II (the first prize awarded to public Referendum at Villa d’Este). In August 1935 the car started at 24 hours of Pescara and only five weeks later he appeared at the Concorso d’eleganza Villa d’Este. Two diametrically opposed situations that demonstrate how sportsmanship driving and the charm of aesthetics are not absolutely contradictory.
