1000 miglia 2018. Let’s start!

Anche quest’anno si è giunti all’imperdibile evento automobilistico, la Millemiglia.
Occasione sempre più legata alla mondanità e sempre meno alla competizione intesa come sfida basata sulla velocità. Numerose le star annunciate, come Piero Pelù a bordo di una Alfa Giulietta Sprint Bertone del ’55 azzurro cielo, piuttosto che Adrien Brody, Guy Berryman dei Coldplay, Giancarlo Fisichella con la vettura numero 100, una Alfa 6c 2300 Pescara spider del ’35, Jochen Mass (noto pilota di formula uno tra il 1973 e il 1982), con una delle numerose Mercedes 300 SL ali di gabbiano iscritte, inoltre Jackie Ickx, (notissimo pilota Ferrari in F1 tra il 1968 e il 1973), in questa occasione al volante di un Porsche 550 spyder A/1500RS del 1957. Nomi che con la loro notorietà hanno forse oscurato la fama delle vere star della miglia (versione addomesticata), come Giuliano Canè (dieci volte vincitore della MM a partire dal 1992), piuttosto che la coppia Vasco-Guerini, vincitori nelle ultime due edizioni.
Nulla a che vedere con chi nella MM correva davvero nelle edizioni comprese tra il 1927 e il 1957, prima dello stop definitivo del ’57 in seguito alla strage di De Portago a Guidizzolo (MN). Auto che sfrecciavano  oltre i 250 km/h lungo le strade spesso sterrate che si incontravano lungo il percorso di allora. Tanto brivido, pericolo e vera voglia di vincere a tutti i costi. Ma con un prezzo troppo alto da pagare in termine di vite umane.

Forse è meglio tornare alla nuova versione, più turistica, ma meno pericolosa…

Also this year we have reached the unmissable automobile event, the Millemiglia. An occasion more and more connected to the worldliness and less to the competition understood as speed-based challenge. Numerous stars announced, as the italian rock singer Piero Pelù aboard an Alfa Giulietta Sprint Bertone ‘ 55 sky blue, rather than Adrien Brody, Guy Berryman of Coldplay, Giancarlo Fisichella with the car number 100 on Alfa 6c 2300 Pescara Spider ‘ 35, Jochen Mass (known Driver of Formula One between 1973 and 1982), with one of the numerous Mercedes 300 SL gull-wings listed at MM2018, also Jackie Ickx, (known Ferrari driver in F1 between 1968 and 1973), on this occasion at the wheel of a Porsche 550 Spyder A/1500RS of 1957. Names that with their notoriety have probably obscured the fame of the real stars of the miles (domesticated version), as Giuliano Canè (ten times winner of the MM starting from 1992), rather than the couple Vasco-Guerini, winners in the last two editions.
Nothing to do with who in MM really ran in the editions between 1927 and 1957, before the definitive stop of ‘ 57 following the massacre of De Portago in Guidizzolo (MN). Cars whizzing over 250 km/h along the often dirt roads that met along the way back then. So much thrill, danger and real desire to win at all costs. But with a too high price to pay in terms of human lives.
Perhaps it is better to return to the new version, more touristy, but less dangerous…
