Un libro di Vittorio Piaggi per raccontare il campione di Lainate.

15 ottobre 2022, Lainate (Milano), una griglia di partenza degna dell’occasione, campioni e personaggi del mondo dell’automobilismo sportivo hanno presenziato alla presentazione a Lainate del volume scritto da Vittorio Piaggi sulla” Vita e gesta dell’inarrestabile GIMAX”. Le strade circostanti diventano un circuito occasionale e provvisorio che ospita auto che rendono onore allo scrittore e al campione che viene ricordato. L’autore ha raccolto 50 racconti che si trasformano in capitoli su trent’anni di carriera di un personaggio che ha recitato una parte importante nella storia dello sport auto italiano. Un racconto biografico che parte dal bambino Carlo Franchi che diventa imprenditore e si trasforma nel campione GIMAX, non a caso un acronimo creato con il nome dei due figli.

Vittorio Piaggi è un appassionato che raccoglie aneddoti e immagini per immagazzinarle nella memoria, sino a quando prevale poi il desiderio di condividere la propria “collezione”, umana e sportiva, con altri come lui. Così è nata l’idea del volume sul campione di Lainate, un gentleman driver che non aveva niente da invidiare ai cosiddetti professionisti del volante.

Vittorio diventa Carlo e sviluppa il libro come una biografia raccontandosi in prima persona, i capitoli sono le tappe umane e sportive di una vita e di una carriera. Trofei, coppe, podi e campionati conquistati in virtù di una passione nata a cospetto di un campione: Gigi Villoresi. Un incontro quasi casuale che aveva lasciato un ricordo e una traccia indelebile nel suo immaginario di bambino. Una potente vettura rossa come una leva per sollevare il mondo. Più veloce, più lontano e più in alto, un gradino alla volta con volontà, tenacia e passione e Carletto diventa “l’inarrestabile Gimax”. I racconti che formano la storia sono pieni di nomi che anche il più sprovveduto tifoso di questo sport non stenterà a riconoscere: piloti, piste, gare e auto, dalle categorie minori, con ogni tipo di auto, turismo, sport e formule. La vetta più alta è stata la Formula 1, una esperienza che non poteva mancare.

Caparbio, coraggioso, determinato e competente, un vero campione, lo confermano titoli nazionali ed europei, ma soprattutto un uomo che ha saputo mantenere quell’umiltà necessaria ad essere apprezzato come grande persona, un ricordo che è nella memoria di quanti lo hanno conosciuto e che l’autore ha contribuito magistralmente con il libro a rinverdire.

Ottima l’idea di aprire tra i racconti le finestre per dare qualche ragguaglio tecnico o rassegna stampa dell’epoca, così il libro attraverso la storia di un personaggio diventa lo spaccato di costume di uno sport, di una società e di un ambiente indimenticabile ed irripetibile. La presentazione ha visto il saluto delle autorità locali e di personaggi che hanno condiviso con il protagonista episodi ed aneddoti, così ancora una volta attraverso le loro parole abbiamo rivisto lo sfrecciare di quelle auto, risentito il rombo di quei motori e lo sventolio della bandiera a scacchi che non segna la fine di una gara ma l’inizio di una lettura che vale la pena cominciare.

A book by Vittorio Piaggi to tell the story of the champion of Lainate

A starting grid worthy of the occasion, champions and personalities from the world of motor sports attended the presentation in Lainate of the book written by Vittorio Piaggi on the “Life and deeds of the unstoppable GIMAX”. The author has collected 50 stories that turn into chapters on thirty years of career of a character who played an important part in the history of Italian motor sport. The stories that form the story are full of names that even the most naive fan of this sport will not struggle to recognize: drivers, tracks, races and cars, from minor categories, with all kinds of cars, tourism, sports and formulas. The highest peak was Formula 1, an experience that could not be missed.
Stubborn, courageous, determined and competent, a true champion, national and European titles confirm him, but above all a man who was able to maintain the humility necessary to be appreciated as a great person, a memory that is in the memory of those who knew him and that the author has masterfully contributed with the book to revive.

Excellent idea to open the windows between the stories to give some technical information or press review of the time, so the book through the story of a character becomes the cross-section of customs of a sport, a society and an unforgettable and unrepeatable environment. The presentation saw the greeting of local authorities and characters who shared with the protagonist episodes and anecdotes, so once again through their words we saw the whizzing of those cars, heard the roar of those engines and the waving of the checkered flag that does not mark the end of a race but the beginning of a reading that is worth starting.
