La Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera venne fondata nel 1926 da Felice Bianchi Anderloni, padre di Carlo Felice, scomparso nel 2003. Negli anni il nome Touring è sempre stato sinonimo di eleganza, qualità e innovazione tecnica: il brevetto di costruzione Superleggera, che vede pannelli d’alluminio battuti a mano applicati a una struttura rigida e leggera in sottili tubi d’acciaio, è del 1936. Ciò consente di avere una maggiore robustezza, leggerezza e rigidità. Proprio il brevetto Superleggera ha permesso a Touring di realizzare con pari maestria sia pezzi unici, che modelli prodotti in piccola serie.

Touring ha dato infatti un enorme contributo alla storia del design automobilistico italiano: nel 1928 vennero realizzate le prime fuoriserie: un’Alfa Romeo e un’Isotta Fraschini, poi creando numerosissimi modelli per conto di Ferrari (dai primi modelli Ferrari fino ai modelli della prima metà degli anni ’50), come la 166 barchetta, la 212 in versione Coupè, Spider e Barchetta spider corsa 2 posti), oltre a svariate Alfa Romeo tra cui la 1900 Sprint, diverse Maserati tra cui la 3500 e 5000 GT e nel 1964 la primissima Lamborghini, la 350/400 GT, oltre ad auto mitiche come la Aston Martin DB5 (quella dei film con James Bond), e la BMW 328 passata alla storia tra le 25 auto più importanti di sempre.

Nel 2012 una nuova società italiana che ha acquistato il marchio, è stata in grado di raccogliere l’eredità tecnica e stilistica del prodotto Touring, allestendo una nuova azienda al avanguardia e trovando le giuste maestranze in grado di riprodurre le tecniche produttive manuali originali. Oggi Touring ripropone ai suoi clienti quegli stessi valori e quello stesso sapere, rivisitati attraverso l’acquisizione delle più moderne esperienze e tecnologie. L’azienda al proprio interno è in grado di coprire tutte le fasi che consentono la produzione completa dell’auto. Dalla formulazione dell’idea, realizzata internamente nel reparto di Progettazione diretto dal designer belga Louis de Fabribeckers*, alla realizzazione dei prototipi in scala, alla produzione delle auto nelle diverse fasi, fino al prodotto finito. Ciò richiede circa 1 anno. Touring progetta e realizza auto in pochissimi pezzi numerati di altissimo livello, con Certificazione Bentley, come la Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, basata sulla Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione (vincitrice del premio “Design of the Year” di AutoDesign & Styling), prodotta per celebrare l’anniversario dei 60 anni della Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 “Disco Volante”, disegnata e realizzata da Touring nel 1952-53.

Inoltre effettua sofisticati restauri di auto d’epoca, in particolare di auto storiche uscite nei diversi anni dalla Carrozzeria Touring milanese, essendo probabilmente la sola o una delle poche in possesso della tecniche e delle maestranze in grado di realizzare a mano carrozzerie complete, tramite la battitura a mano di lastre di alluminio. L’alluminio viene infatti plasmato dai battilastra tenendo come riferimento per le forme da realizzare un modello in scala 1:1 realizzato in clay. I processi di controllo qualità includono test statici e dinamici prima che la vettura venga rilasciata. Un protocollo di verifiche statiche richiede la conformità agli alti standard di allineamento e giochi delle superfici, di qualità di verniciatura e lucidatura, di cuciture e rifiniture interne. Test funzionali sono condotti in camera climatica. I test dinamici in pista di prova riguardano la tenuta aria e acqua, l’assenza di rumorosità e scricchiolii, la guidabilità, la frenata e tutte gli aspetti funzionali. I collaudi comprendono velocità massima, handling sul bagnato e comportamento su diverse superfici accidentate. Il lavoro alla Touring Superleggera oggi richiede abilità manuali fuori dal ordinario oltre ad una lunga esperienza: battilastra, saldatori, responsabili di assemblaggio, lavorazione del legno e dei pellami, esperti nel trattamento delle superfici e verniciatura, designer, ingegneri sono alcuni esempi dei tipi di professionalità richieste. Un tale patrimonio di competenze va preservato e alimentato. La struttura ha al proprio interno anche sofisticati sistemi di verniciatura, tanto che è l’unica carrozzeria in grado di realizzare con tecniche manuali alcuni colori speciali, che vengono qui appositamente realizzati per conto di Lamborghini e Maserati.

Touring privilegia l’assunzione di giovani da formare sul campo. Sono selezionati in base a formazione, potenziale, capacità di lavorare in team, ma ciò che fa veramente la differenza è la passione. Sono necessari più di due anni per integrare un apprendista al interno del gruppo di lavoro. “Touring ha assunto 10 persone nel 2012 – dice il CEO Piero Mancardi – e siamo orgogliosi di perpetuare una tradizione di alta professionalità nella manifattura di automobili a Milano”. History of Touring Superleggera

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera was founded in 1926 by Felice Bianchi Anderloni, Carlo Felice’s father, who died in 2003. Over the years, the Touring name has always been synonymous with elegance, quality and technical innovation: patented Superleggera construction, with aluminium panels hand-beaten applied to a rigid structure and lightweight thin steel tubes, is 1936. This gives greater robustness, lightness and rigidity. Their patented Superleggera has allowed Touring to perform with equal mastery and unique pieces, which models produced in small series. Touring has given a huge contribution to the history of Italian automotive design: in 1928 were the first custom cars: Alfa Romeo and an Isotta Fraschini, then creating numerous models for Ferrari (the earliest Ferrari models to models from the early to mid 50 ‘s), as the 166 Barchetta, the 212 Coupe, the Spider and the Barchetta race spider 2 seats), in addition to several Alfa Romeo, the 1900 Sprint among them, several including the Maserati 3500 and 5000 GT and in 1964, the first Lamborghini, the GT 350/400, as well as legendary cars as the Aston Martin DB5 (that of the James Bond films), and the BMW 328 passed into history among the25 most important cars of all time. In 2012 a new Italian company that bought the brand, has been able to gather technical and stylistic legacy of Touring product, setting up a new State-of-the-art company and finding the right workers can reproduce the original manual production techniques. Touring today proposes its clients those same values and the same know, revisited through the acquisition of the most advanced technologies and experiences. The company internally is able to cover all the phases that allow full production of the car. The formulation of the idea, created internally in the design department headed by Belgian designer Louis de Fabribeckers *, with the realization of prototypes in scale, the production of cars at different stages, up to the finished product. This takes about 1 year.

Touring designs and manufactures cars in very few numbered pieces of the highest level, with Bentley, Certified as the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, based on the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione (winner of the “Design of the Year” by AutoDesign & Styling), produced to celebrate the anniversary of 60 years of Alfa Romeo C52 1900 ” Disco Volante”, designed and built by Touring in 1952-53. Also performs sophisticated vintage car restorations, especially vintage cars out in different years by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, being probably the only or one of the few in possession of techniques and workers able to produce complete body shells, hand by hand typing of aluminium plates. Aluminium is indeed shaped by plumbers taking as reference for the forms to achieve a scale model 1: 1 made of clay.

Quality assurance processes include static and dynamic test before the car is released. A static verification protocol requires adherence to the highest standards and alignment of surfaces, paint quality and polishing, and internal trim seams. Functional tests are conducted in a climatic chamber.

Dynamic tests test track regarding air and water tightness, the absence of noise and creaks, the handling, braking and all functional aspects. The tests include maximum speed, handling on wet and rough behavior on different surfaces.

The job to the Touring Superleggera today requires manual skills out of the ordinary besides a long experience: Plumbers, welders, Assembly, responsible for working with wood and leather, experts in surface treatment and painting, designers, engineers are some examples of the types of skills required. Such a wealth of skills must be preserved and fostered.

The structure has also sophisticated internal coating systems, which is the only body able to achieve with manual techniques some special colours, which are specially made here on behalf of Lamborghini and Maserati.

Touring privileges the recruitment of young people into the field. Are selected on the basis of training, potential, ability to work in team, but what really makes the difference is the passion. It takes more than two years to integrate an apprentice within the working group. “Touring has hired 10 people in 2012 – Piero Mancardi CEO says – and we are proud to continue a tradition of high professionalism in the manufacturing of cars in Milan”.

The May 23, 2014 Touring unveiled a new project to the competition of elegance Villa d’Este, the MINI Superleggera™ Vision.

Graduated from the ISD of Valenciennes in France in Transportation Design, de Fabribeckers held trainee and graduate jobs at IDEA Institute and BMW. He started his cooperation with Touring in 2007 as project leader.
